The Fun Theory

Before we go deeper into behaviour change theories and design strategies, let’s start by some examples of products or objects deliberately designed to change behaviours.

The Fun Theory is a great example of Design for Behaviour Change. It’s an initiative by volkswagen with a very simple theory; fun is the easiest way to change people’s behaviour to the better.

Fun is a powerful tool that can be used to persuade people to change their bad behaviour, who in our stressful world doesn’t like to have some fun?! Persuasive Design focuses on reducing ones inner resistance to make a good choice, it’s one of the design approaches that we are gonna discuss later; how do we motivate people to change their bad behaviours?
